Here are the steps to correct this issue:
First, remove the 1394 controller and notice if network connectivity in the system returns. If it does, then continue with the paragraph that mentions NET1394.INF
.
If network connectivity in the system does not return, then go to Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore and restore the system to a time prior to installing the 1394 controller card.
If the system restore is successful, then test to see if network access returns. Please note that any programs that have been added since the restore point will need to be reinstalled, but the files that were created or modified since that restore point will remain.
Browse to the location
c:windowsinf
and locate two files :
NET1394.INF
NET1394.PNF.
Delete both of these files, power down the system and reinstall the 1394 controller card. When the system boots up, it will prompt you for a driver for a '1394 Net Adapter.' Cancel the installation for the Net Adapter and navigate to Device Manager and look under the 'Other Devices' category. There the following should be seen '1394 Net Adapter' with a question mark
symbol next to it. 'Right-click' on the listing and choose 'Disable.'
The 1394 Networking Component should then be disabled and won't interfere with the Ethernet or Dial up network connections typically found in most systems. This should not affect general the performance or functionality of the 1394 controller card and will only disable the networking component of the 1394 bus.
